12/2-12/16, Tuesday 5:30-8:30, Glass Slumping with Ceramics: Intermediate clay, beginner glass

$300.00

Join Garnet in playing around with slumping glass into ceramic forms. The is an experimental class and intended for folks who already understand basic handbuilding techniques. Glass slumping is a technique where pane glass is put into a kiln and heated until soft causing it to “slump” kinda like a bubble through, or into a form. You will also learn how to use a ceramic kiln to slump glass, including loading, kiln programing + other tips and tricks. Glazed will have a once a month glass fire for students and members who want to continue after the initial class period/ firings.

*Basic Clay and Glass materials and tools are included. We will be using a white paper clay, our studio glazes and will have a mixed pack of glass for folks to choose from. If you would like to bring in your own specific materials, please make sure clay is ^5-7 and glass must be COE96 fusible.

*Do not sign up for this class if you have to miss a day. There is going to be a lot of information and each day will be important.

Week 1: Making and glazing slab forms

Week 2: Cutting and fitting glass, loading kilns

Week 3: Continued work, 2nd glass firing

Class includes access to basic open studio time. You are welcome to make more clay pieces during this time over the first and second week so they are ready to go into the kiln for week 3 with glass.

*glass and clay results will vary and are not guaranteed
