Garnet Glaze

They/She

Growing up in Gunnison Co, Garnet has always had a passion for getting dirty and working hard. After working many years as a part time potter and bartender, covid hit. With bars and art markets closed, it was time for change and growth. Garnet took it as a sign to follow through on a long time dream of opening a community studio. Thus Glazed was born.

Garnet has been playing in mud since college in 2014 where they graduated with degrees in Studio Art and Psychology. While teaching is certainly a passion, in Garnet’s own art they enjoy playing with the subtleties of shape as well as learning about glaze chemistry and exploring various surface decoration techniques.

Christian Smith is a lifelong interdisciplinary artist and Bachelor of Fine Arts who brings their experience in several sculpture mediums, painting, drawing, fabric arts, and more with them to Glazed. They believe students grow best in supportive environments and aims to bring useful knowledge and joy to each class she teaches. Christian believes art is for everyone and attempts to breathe life into that belief with everything she does. Their dog Zelda often accompanies them to work and has quickly become a bit of a celebrity around the studio.

Rachel started throwing pottery in 2021 and has been obsessed ever since! She has a background in various other mediums, such as painting, sculpting, and cake artistry. Rachel has found clay to be one of the most versatile and engaging art forms to work in, and loves to share her experience with anyone curious about ceramics!

When she’s not playing with clay, Rachel is usually out exploring Colorado, on a brewery patio, or redecorating her home. Find her in the studio, probably in some overalls, making colorful donuts or teaching project classes!

Gita has always been drawn to the arts but found her true passion in clay during her high school years. She earned a BFA in Ceramics from Metro State University and has nearly 20 years of studio teaching experience ranging from beginner to intermediate and from children to fellow art instructors. Her time teaching, as well as being a key employee at a local pottery supply, has given her an understanding of a wide range of products, techniques and technical information that informs her personal work and teaching style. Much of her background is in conceptual art but most of her work is functional, wheel thrown with textural and illustrative qualities.

When she’s not in the studio you can find her out on the town dancing to live music or learning about foraging local plants and mushrooms. She loves animals and has a cat named, Moki.
