8/27 9-noon, Glazing 101: Brushing up on Brushing Glazes, All Levels
Feeling like picking glazes and using them can be a bit daunting? Not happy with the results you’ve been getting with pieces you’ve made? Want to create spectacular results? Look no further!
We will cover the foundational basics of using brushing glazes and give you the knowledge and confidence to create successful pieces you're happy with. If you’re interested in spectacular results and learning best practices for using commercial glazes that include how to pick the best brush for the job, making test tiles and documenting results, dealing with runny glazes, basic layering techniques, understanding terminology, keeping your glaze pints happy, using washes, picking the best glaze for your needs and what the heck a cone is…. Then this class is for you! Each participant will get to play around with layering glazes from various manufacturers and will leave the class with informative test pieces to add to their collection.
Test pieces will be provided but participants are welcome to bring one piece of cone 6 bisqueware that is no larger than 5”x5”. Firing is included with the workshop. Pieces can be picked up one month from the workshop date.
Materials to bring:
A note book for note taking
An apron or towel if you would like
Any favorite glaze brushes that you prefer to use (we will have brushes available)
Any questions that may have come up during your glazing process
What Glazed provides:
Tried and true glazes to play with
4-6 test pieces for you to experiment on and keep once Glazed fires them
Hake brushes that are fabulous for glazing which will be available for purchase at the end of class if you love them
Feel free to bring drinks and snacks, you must be 21+ to drink alcohol and no glass containers. Please note masks are not mandatory in the studio but any one is welcome to wear them, we also can set up a work table set back a bit for the purposes of social distancing. *A 6-person minimum is required to run the class, if we do not meet the minimum we will reach out and let you know the class has been canceled, or try to find a time to reschedule.
Pick up time is 1 month after date of class and you have one month to pick your pot up, please take a photo of your item with the glaze color visible to keep for pick up. Putting a reminder in your calendar is a really good way to ensure you don’t forget, we do not send out reminders. You can find your pottery on the shelf below the unicorn head.
We are open Monday-Thursday 5:30-8pm and Sundays 12-5pm for pick up (Sundays are best!). We keep pots for 2 months after initial class date, after which they may be donated, sold or used for an event.
