Earthen Dec 4th-20th at 40 West Arts
Whats happening?
40 West Arts has invited Glazed students and members to enter pieces into a multimedia show featuring ceramics alongside selected wall art that embodies the theme of Earthen. The prompt is: Soil, earth, mud, clay, dirt, sand, loam. It has many names, textures, shades of brown, and fragrances. The earth beneath our feet grounds us, feeds us, and offers a garden for us to grow our dreams. Reach into the mud and become one with the elements. Lose yourself in the gravity that brings us back to earth every time. Earthen is an opportunity for artists to express their relationship with our constant companion and strongest support, the earth on which we live. Open to artists of all levels of experience.
What can I submit?
We have 2 ways you can submit work to be shown. You can do one or both options.
Items will be Juried by Christian Smith and Garnet Glaze.
Option A: Larger sculptural pieces or a set of pieces that you want together. These items will be showcased on either the wall or a pedestal. Items will remain on display for the entirety of the show which is December 4th-20th. There is limited space for sculptural items. Due to this only select pieces will be chosen and please only submit your best work. You may choose whether or not to sell your artwork.
Option B: Cups, mugs and small items sold individually. These items will be part of a Mug/Cup sale table that will be set up more like a traditional pottery sale with lots of items displayed together. These items are “buy and carry” and will only stay on display until purchased. We will be restocking this table throughout the month, so you are encouraged to submit many items. All items on the table must be for sale.
Whats the cut?
40 West takes 15% and Glazed takes 10% + Sales tax. What does this mean? The price listed in the gallery is what folks will pay, sales tax included. 40 West takes 15% and then sends the rest to Glazed. Glazed then pays the sales tax on items that sold and takes %10 of the pretax price to cover costs in labor and marketing. The rest will be paid out to the artists individually. You do not have to pay sales tax on what you receive.
When Can I apply?
Applications will be open September 1st-20th. We will consider works in progress and examples of smaller items that you plan on making such as a sample mug that you have made and plan to make 10 more. Pots with flaws (cracking, glaze pulls, etc) will not be accepted. We will announce selections on September 28th.
